Falcons Injury Update: Julio Jones avoids PUP

By on 7/23/2014 10:00:00 AM

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones was on pace for a big season in 2013, with 41 receptions for 580 yards and two touchdowns over the first five games. But he suffered a broken right foot in that fifth game against the New York Jets, and missed the final 11 games of the season after undergoing surgery. Jones did not do much during offseason work, and he will limited at the start of training camp, but D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution has reported that Jones will not be placed on the active/physically unable to perform list.

Falcons' head coach Mike Smith offered further confirmation that Jones' snaps will be limited at the start of training camp, and with two similar injuries to the same foot so far in his career that is not surprising. As one of the top young wide receivers in the league and a key part of Atlanta's offense, the obvious goal is to have Jones 100 percent healthy for Week 1 against the division rival New Orleans Saints. Jones will surely be one of the most watched players when HBO's "Hard Knocks" visits Falcons' camp, and we'll get a close look at his progress.
