Giants Injury Update: Brandon Belt could play this weekend

By on 7/30/2014 11:15:00 AM

San Francisco Giants (57-50) first baseman Brandon Belt has been on the DL since suffering a concussion during the Giants win against the Florida Marlins on July 19th.  Raymond Bureau of Sports Injury Alert reported on Monday that Belt had not been cleared for baseball activities, however Belt has been progressing well this week and Alex Pavlovic tweeted that Belt took some swings yesterday.

According to Pavlovic, Belt may be able to play this weekend, but it is still unclear whether he will play for a minor league team for a short rehab stint or if he will join the Giants right away.  The NL West second place Giants start a series this weekend with the New York Mets (51-56) who are in fourth place in the NL East.  The Giants need Belt back for both his offense and defense.  Belt is batting .304/.455/.758 with 10 homeruns and 23 RBIs in 46 games.  He also has a .993 fielding percentage with only three errors in 46 games at first base this season.
