Giants Injury Update: Brandon Belt exits due to dizziness

By on 7/19/2014 08:16:00 PM

After hitting an RBI double and scoring a run in Saturday night’s game against the Miami Marlins, Brandon Belt left because of dizziness, the Giants announced. It was thought that he left due to back stiffness.

Belt has had some back issues in recent weeks as Bruce Bochy mentioned Belt’s soreness before the game. Belt missed Sunday’s game against the Diamondbacks with soreness and had same pain during batting practice Saturday.

Belt took practice cuts and was constantly talking to trainer, Dave Groeschner, but ended up being fine and starting the game.

After doubling in the second inning, Belt ran to third on a pass ball, and then scored on a overthrow in the same play. He slid twice and probably caused the discomfort.

This season, Belt has hit for a line of .242/.304/.455 with 10 home runs, 23 RBI, 13 walks, 48 strikeouts, and a .758 OPS in 46 games. He missed over a month after breaking his wrist in May.
In 2013, Belt hit for a slash of .289/.360/.459 with 17 home runs, 67 RBI, 52 walks, 125 strikeouts, and an .841 OPS in 150 games. He had a late surge as he hit for a .326 average post all-star break with 7 home runs, 29 RBI, and a .390 OBP.
