Giants Injury Update: Brandon Belt scratched with back stiffness

By on 7/13/2014 04:24:00 PM

According to Alex Pavlovic of The San Jose Mercury News, Brandon Belt of the Giants has been scratched form Sunday’s game due to back stiffness. He has only played 45 games this year due to breaking his thumb back in May.

Since coming back on July 4, Belt has 5 hits in 30 at bats while hitting just one home run and slugging .267. Needless to say he is still trying to get back in the groove of major league pitching.

This season, Belt has a line of .245/.309/.459 with 10 home runs, 22 RBI, 13 walks, 47 strikeouts, and a .768 OPS in 45 games.

In 2013, Belt hit for a slash of .289/.360/.459 with 17 home runs, 67 RBI, 52 walks, 125 strikeouts, and an .841 OPS in 150 games. He had a late surge as he hit for a .326 average post all-star break with 7 home runs, 29 RBI, and a .390 OBP.

We will let you know about Belt’s back injury when more information comes out. Seems as if it was precautionary.
