Giants Injury Update: Ehire Adrianza headed for DL

By on 7/25/2014 07:30:00 AM

Ehire Adrianza of the Giants will head to the disabled list with an injured hamstring, according to Alex Pavlovic of The San Jose Mercury News. There has been no word on who will get called up, but Dan Uggla was just signed to a minor-league deal early in the week, so he is a good candidate to get called up.

Adrianza was running to second when he pulled up and grabbed the back of his leg. He already spent 4 weeks on the DL due to the same hamstring injury and was just getting back to his normal self by going 4 for 14 in the past 7 days.

This season, Adrianza has a line of .237/.279/.299 with 0 home runs, 5 RBI, 5 walks, 22 strikeouts, and a .578 OPS in 53 games. He has committed 2 errors as a second baseman this year, which is a .974 fielding percentage.

In 2013, Adrianza hit for a slash of .222/.263/.444 with 1 home run, 3 RBI, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts, and a .707 OPS in 9 games. He had a 0.2 WAR while committing one error at shortstop.

The Giants are 57-43 and 1.5 games in front of the Dodgers for first place as they start a 3 game series Friday where Tim Lincecum (9-6, 3.65 ERA) will face Zack Greinke (11-6, 2.90 ERA).

  1. They have Nick Noonan already on the 40-man roster who can come up instead of Uggla, which I would prefer, because he plays multiple positions.

  2. I agree, Joe. He would be the better option right now. Wouldn't be surprised if Cain went on the 60-day & they added Uggla to the 40-man.

  3. Well looks like Uggla is coming up & will be starting tonight for the Giants.

  4. Yup, noticed that, and they DFA'd Noonan, which makes no sense to me other than Uggla is established in the MLB. I would still rather have had Noonan though.
