Giants Injury Update: Hector Sanchez exits

Hector Sanchez of the Giants left Friday’s against the Dodgers after taking a foul tip to the mask, the team announced. He was removed from the game the next inning after he flied out. Buster Posey moved to catcher, Michael Morse from left field to first, and Tyler Colvin to left field off the bench.

Sanchez has been taking a lot of foul tips off the mask this year and has missed some time from it. He has a line of .196/.237/.301 with 3 home runs, 28 RBI, 8 walks, 55 strikeouts, and a .538 OPS in 66 games this year. Sanchez may well need to go on the concussion 7-day disabled list after this particular incident.

In 2013, Sanchez hit for a slash of .248/.300/.349 with 3 home runs, 19 RBI, 7 walks, 29 strikeouts, and a .649 OPS in 63 games. He had a 0.5 WAR, according to ESPN.

We will update you as we gather more information. The Giants are playing game one against the Dodgers in a three game series that has an impact on the National League West division race.
