Giants Injury Update: Marco Scutaro not in lineup Friday

By on 7/19/2014 11:00:00 AM

The San Francisco Giants remained in a tie for first place in the National League West with the Los Angeles Dodgers following a 9-1 win over the Miami Marlins on Friday. Madison Bumgarner pitched six innings to get his 11th win of the season. Pablo Sandoval and Brandon Crawford each homered for the Giants, who were without Marco Scutaro, due to a stiff neck.

I reported on July 12 that Scutaro, who has been out all season with a back injury that required a nerve block back in spring training, was activated from the disabled list.  But it wasn't Scutaro's back that kept him out of the lineup on Friday.

As reported by Maria Torres of, manager Bruce Bochy said that Scutaro was out of the lineup due to a stiff neck.  Scutaro missed the last game prior to the All-Star break on Sunday and his neck has been bothering him since Thursday.

In 127 games last season, Scutaro batted .297 with two home runs and 31 RBI.  Scutaro, a 38-year old veteran who has played for the  Mets, A's, Blue Jays, Red Sox, Rockies and Giants, has a career batting average of .278 with 77 home runs and 509 RBI.
