Giants Injury Update: Pablo Sandoval exits after HBP

By on 7/05/2014 07:44:00 PM

According to Alex Pavlovic of The San Jose Mercury News, Pablo Sandoval left Saturday’s game after getting hit by a pitch in his left arm in the first inning. He stayed in for one more pitch, but Brandon Belt was thrown out at second to end the inning. Joaquin Arias replaced him in the bottom of the first inning.

This season, Sandoval has a line of .261/.315/.416 with 10 home runs, 36 RBI, 25 walks, 55 strikeouts, and a .731 OPS in 86 games played. He has been one of the better defensive third baseman’s this year as he has 8 defensive runs saved while making just 6 errors.

In 2013, Sandoval hit for a slash of .278/.341/.417 with 14 home runs, 52 RBI, 47 walks, 79 strikeouts, and a .758 OPS in 141 games played. After the season the Giants and him started extension talks, but those have been tabled for the end of the season.

The Giants sit at 47-39 and 1.5 games back of first place in the National League West division behind the Dodgers.  They let a 9.5 game lead slip from the beginning of June and now are a week away from maybe slipping out of contention.

Stay tuned for Sandoval updates as more information will come out soon and after the game. Marco Scutaro and Angel Pagan are two players that are already key pieces on the disabled list.
