Injury Moves and Notes: July 14th

By on 7/14/2014 07:30:00 AM

This will be the place to come for all those minor notes, roster moves and rehab updates, as well as a ton of links to help you find more detail on all the injury stories. This page will be updated throughout the day to keep you on top of all the latest information. Here's what's been going on over the weekend:

Baltimore Orioles: placed RHP Ubaldo Jimenez on the 15-day DL with a sprained ankle. Jimenez sprained his ankle in his parking lot last week.

Colorado Rockies: activated LHP Brett Anderson to start Sunday after two months out with a broken finger; moved RHP Jordan Lyles (broken hand) to the 60-day disabled list. Anderson had a rough first inning in which he surrendered five runs on seven hits but settled down after that to allow just one run in his next four innings. Lyles has been moved to the 60-day DL because his broken hand is not healing as quickly as expected.

Los Angeles Angels: placed OF Collin Cowgill on the disabled list with a broken nose & thumb. Cowgill suffered the misfortune of breaking both in the same bunt attempt on Saturday when the ball deflected off his thumb and hit him in the nose.

Oakland Athletics: activated RHP Drew Pomeranz (broken hand) and optioned him to Triple A Sacramento. Pomeranz found himself pushed out of the rotation while on the DL after the A's acquired both Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel.

Pittsburgh Pirates: activated LHP Francisco Liriano, returning from a strained lat, to start Sunday. Liriano walked six in just four innings and was perhaps lucky to give up just the three earned runs in that time.

Rehab Roundup

Dodgers infielder Justin Turner started his assignment with Class A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday, reaching base in all four of his plate appearances while playing as the designated hitter.

Emilio Bonifacio and Kyuji Fujikawa of the Chicago Cubs both continued their rehab with the team's Arizona League Rookie affiliate on Saturday. Bonifacio played five innings, going 0-2 with a run and a stolen base. Fujikawa struck out two, giving up a double and a walk in a scoreless inning. Sunday's game was rained out.

Brewers reliever Jim Henderson pitched two innings for Double A Huntsville, giving up an unearned run, after moving up from his Rookie league assignment.

Cardinals left-hander Kevin Siegrist, making his first rehab appearance on Friday, struggled with his command in two-thirds of an inning for Double A Springfield, walking two batters in his outing.

Andy Dirks of the Detroit Tigers went 1-4 for Class A Lakeland on Saturday while playing left field for seven innings as he continues to rehab from the back surgery he had before the season.

Mets catcher Taylor Teagarden started his rehab with the Gulf Coast League Mets, playing into the sixth and going 0-1 with a walk and HBP as the DH before being replaced by a pinch-runner.

Phillies starter Cliff Lee will make his final rehab appearance for Class A Clearwater tonight. Lee is now scheduled to pitch on July 21st for the Phillies.
