Injury Moves and Notes: July 24th

By on 7/24/2014 04:00:00 AM

Plenty of rehab notes today as a number of players are getting very close to a return.

Transactions

St. Louis Cardinals: activated LHP Kevin Siegrist. The 25-year-old has been on the DL for two months with a forearm strain.

Los Angeles Angels: placed INF/OF Grant Green on the 15-day DL with a lower back strain. The move made it possible for C.J. Cron to return to the roster just a few days after being optioned.

Day-to-day

Houston Astros shortstop Marwin Gonzalez is dealing with hamstring soreness that led to him being pulled early last night. The team expects he will be able to play on Thursday.

Rehab roundup

Dodgers shortstop Erisbel Arruebarena was sent to the team's Arizona League affiliate to start his rehab, going 0-4 with two strikeouts as the designated hitter. Arruebarena is recovering from a hip flexor strain. Meanwhile, at Triple A Albuquerque, Chone Figgins and Scott Elbert both made appearances, Figgins going 2-3 with a double and a walk as the leadoff hitter, while Elbert pitched a scoreless inning with a strikeout.

Red Sox catcher Ryan Lavarnway went 2-4 with a run scored as he continued his assignment with the Portland Sea Dogs, playing first base for eight innings. Lavarnway has started each of the last three games for Portland.

Diamondbacks catcher and infielder Jordan Pacheco started for the second straight night after being sent to the Triple A Reno Aces to rehab from shoulder tendinitis. Pacheco went 0-4 as the DH after playing second base on Tuesday.

Jedd Gyorko hit a home run while Everth Cabrera and Yonder Alonso both made pinch-hit appearances for the El Paso Chihuahuas. The San Diego Padres second baseman went 2-4 with a walk as the team's Triple A affiliate racked up 16 runs in eight innings.

Cubs right-hander Kyuji Fujikawa continued his good performance while recovering from Tommy John surgery, striking out two in a scoreless seventh for the Iowa Cubs.
