Jaguars Injury Update: Dekoda Watson to be placed on PUP list

By on 7/22/2014 11:15:00 PM

After receiving an apparent sports hernia surgery in late June, Jacksonville Jaguars starting LB Dekoda Watson will most likely be placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list and will miss the entirety of training camp and pre-season action.
According to reports from and the Florida Times-Union, Watson “could start training camp next week on the physically unable to perform list because of sports hernia surgery…the expectation is that he’ll still be ready for the Sept. 7 season opener at Philadelphia.”

During his NFL career, Watson has been a virtual backup and special teams helper, only recording 106 tackles, 3.0 sacks and two forced fumbles during his four-year career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Due to his starting role in the Jaguars’ defensive scheme, the loss of Watson could be a potential roadblock considering that sophomore LaRoy Reynolds has rarely seen any playing time. The Jaguars hope that by the time week one rolls around, Watson will be fully recovered and ready to start.
