Lightning Injury Update: Prospect Koekkoek recovers from multiple shoulder injuries

By on 7/12/2014 12:08:00 PM

Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Slater Koekkoek hopes that his injuries will no longer prevent his return, according to Joe Yerdon of NBC Sports.
Koekkoek had been drafted by Tampa Bay as a first-round pick in 2012, and has since been playing for the Windsor Spitfires. While building his defensive skills, each of his three seasons with the Spitfires have resulted in shoulder injuries.

In particular, the 2013-2014 season was cut short due to a shoulder injury Koekkoek sustained in a fight. However, despite the early end to the season, Koekkoek seems to be in good spirits, saying "...I'm just going to move forward."

The 20-year-old defenseman will not likely play in the Lightning sweater this season, but will continue to strengthen his abilities in the AHL, as well as recovering fully.

Koekkoek finished his last season with 15 goals and 38 assists over a period of 62 games.
