Mariners Injury Update: Michael Saunders injured on check swing, will undergo MRI today

By on 7/11/2014 11:30:00 AM

Seattle Mariners outfielder Michael Saunders left last night’s game against the Minnesota Twins in the eighth inning after being injured on an apparent check swing.  According to team beat writer, Bob Dutton, of The Tacoma News Tribune, Saunders will undergo an MRI today:

Dutton also tweeted that Saunders “felt a sharp pain in his side” according to manager Lloyd McClendon.

The injury could be a big blow to the Mariners lineup.  After losing time earlier in the season due to a shoulder injury, Saunders could be on his way back to the disabled list yet again.

In losing Saunders, they lose a powerful lefty bat who has hit all around the Mariners lineup when healthy.  This season Saunders is currently batting a career high .276 with six homeruns and 28 runs batted in just 65 games.

With the A’s and Angels' lead growing in the AL West, the Mariners cannot afford to lose players and more ground.
