By on 7/19/2014 08:00:00 PM

Henderson Alvarez of the Miami Marlins left Saturday’s game against the San Francisco Giants in the 3rd inning due to a left shin contusion after getting hit on a come backer by Joe Panik. Sam Dyson came into relief for Alvarez, according to Henry Schulman of SF Gate.

This season, Alvarez has a 2.64 ERA in 122 innings pitched while walking 22 and striking out 75. He carries a 1.26 WHIP and an opponents batting average of .278. He was an All-Star in Minnesota for the Marlins along with Giancarlo Stanton.

In 2013, Alvarez had a 3.59 ERA in 102 innings pitched while walking 27 and striking out 57. He had a 1.9 WAR and a 1.14 WHIP. Alvarez has a career ERA of 3.84 in 473 innings pithced and is only 24 years old, so he looks like the Marlins future ace.

We will update you when more information comes out. Alvarez ended up going 2.2 innings and gave up 1 earned run on 3 hits.
