Marlins Injury Update: Kevin Gregg, A.J. Ramos

By on 7/19/2014 11:30:00 AM

The Miami Marlins had a rough start to the second half of the season, losing to the San Francisco Giants on Friday by the score of 9-1. The loss dropped the Marlins to 44-51, eight and a half games back in the National League East. There was some good and bad news on the injury front, as Kevin Gregg was placed on the disabled list, while A.J. Ramos was activated.

I reported on July 15 that Ramos, who has been on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation, began a rehab assignment and was expected to rejoin the Marlins following the All-Star break.

Juan C. Rodriguez, who covers the Marlins for the Sun Sentinel, confirmed the activation of Ramos.
Ramos, a 27-year old reliever, is in his third Major League season.  Last season, he allowed only 58 hits in 80 innings and struck out 83, while walking 43. Although still having control problems this season, walking 29 in 37 1/3 innings, Ramos has an ERA of 2.17 and has allowed only 23 hits and one home run.  Ramos has a career record of 7-4 with a 2.91 ERA.

Gregg has struggled in 12 appearances with the Marlins, allowing 10 runs on 11 hits in just nine innings of work. The 12-year veteran, who has pitched for the Angels, Cubs, Blue Jays, Orioles and Marlins has a career record of 30-44 with 177 saves and an ERA of 4.15.
