Mavericks Injury Update: Rashard Lewis will undergo knee surgery

By on 7/24/2014 06:00:00 AM

The Dallas Mavericks won 49 games this past season and lost in the first round to the eventual NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the Western Conference Playoffs. Although eighth in the league in scoring, the Mavericks were 20th in points allowed. To add some additional veteran presence to the team, the Mavericks signed Rashard Lewis a few days ago, but now appears he will undergo knee surgery.

As reported by Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports, Lewis will soon undergo right knee surgery, according to his agent.  After signing for the veteran's minimum just a few days ago, the Mavericks have voided the contract after it was revealed he needed surgery.

Lewis' agent Colin Bryant is uncertain how long Lewis will be sidelined.
"Rashard discovered he needs a medical procedure on his right knee to ensure he functions at a high level this season. We look forward to [Lewis] getting this behind him as soon as possible so he can continue his stellar NBA career."
Lewis, a 17-year NBA veteran,  averaged 4.5 points in 16.2 minutes per game with the Miami Heat this past season. Lewis has career averages of 14.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
