Mets Injury Update: Daisuke Matsuzaka to have elbow examined

By on 7/26/2014 07:30:00 AM

The New York Mets scored three runs in the ninth inning on Friday night to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers by the score of 3-2. Lucas Duda hit a two-run home run and David Wright had an RBI single in the ninth. The win improved the Mets to 49-54 on the season, fourth place in the National League East. The Mets are struggling offensively, but are hanging tough with a pitching staff ranked 10th in the Major Leagues in ERA. There is some concern with reliever Daisuke Matsuzaka, who is dealing with an elbow issue.

Marc Carig, who covers the Mets for Newsday, tweeted the following on Matsuzaka,
Matsuaka had his elbow examined on Friday and is currently listed as day-to-day.  He has struggled of late, allowing four earned runs and five hits in his last two games, covering 3 1/3 innings.  Prior to that he allowed 14 earned runs in 24 innings covering four starts. One of those starts Matusaka threw seven shutout innings, but the rest were disappointing.

In 28 games this season, Matsuzaka is 3-3 with a 3.89 ERA. The eight-year Major League veteran has pitched for the Red Sox and Mets and has a career record of 56-43 with a 4.46 ERA.
