By on 7/12/2014 07:00:00 PM

Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond, who was removed from Thursday's game against the Baltimore Orioles after he was hit on the right hand by a pitch, sat out Fridays 6-2 loss to the Phillies, but is back in the lineup for Saturday night's game, according to Bill Ladson of MLB. Desmond is hitting .241/.293/.429 (OPS+ 98) with 16 homers and 55 RBI.

Desmond, 28, was drafted by the Montreal Expos in 2004 (3rd round) and made his debut for the Nationals September 10, 2009. He was named to the 2012 All-Star Team and won a Silver Slugger in 2013 when he hit  .280/.331/.453 (OPS+115) with 20 homers and 21 stolen bases. He is signed to a two-year $17.5 million contract  that takes him through 2015, at which point he will  be eligible for free agency.
