Nationals Injury Update: Jayson Werth dealing with sore knee

By on 7/25/2014 11:30:00 AM

The Washington Nationals enter a weekend series against the Cincinnati Reds coming off a 6-4 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday. Denard Span went 4-for-5 with two runs scored in the loss, which dropped the Nationals to 55-44, a game and a half ahead of the Atlanta Braves in the National League East. There is a bit of concern on the injury front, as right fielder Jayson Werth has been dealing with a sore knee.

Dan Kolko, on-field reporter for Washington Nationals broadcasts on MASN, tweeted the following on Werth's status.
With Werth out of the lineup on Wednesday, the Nationals started Bryce Harper in right field, with Scott Hairston in left. Werth pinch hit for Hairston in the seventh and stayed in the game, going 1-for-2 with an RBI and a strikeout.

Werth, in his 12th Major League season, is batting .285 with 12 home runs and 56 RBI this season. The veteran outfielder has played with the Blue Jays, Dodgers, Phillies and Nationals and has a career batting average of .275 with 182 home runs and 633 RBI.

  1. I'll believe Jayson sits out when I see it, especially with Zim out for probably a month.
