Orioles Injury Update: Chris Davis, Ubaldo Jimenez

By on 7/30/2014 10:30:00 AM

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis was missing from the team's lineup last night after experiencing flu-like symptoms, reports Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports. While the major league team pulled off a 12-inning win, Ubaldo Jimenez made a rehab start for Single A Aberdeen, going 4 2/3 innings and giving up one unearned run on five hits.

Kubatko quoted manager Buck Showalter on Davis, who said "It may be contagious and we don't want it passed around," when asked about the illness. Davis was sent home with the illness and it's not clear whether he has recovered enough to play on Wednesday afternoon, although if he's still dealing with symptoms it seems likely the team won't let him near the other players.

Kubatko also reports that Jimenez said his injured right ankle felt 'fine' after his start and he had no problems with any routine movements. The team will reevaluate Jimenez on Wednesday to see how it responds before taking the next step, but Kubatko speculates the right-hander will head to Triple-A Norfolk for another rehab start. The 30-year-old last pitched on July 5th against the Red Sox, but he actually sustained the injury when he stepped in a pothole in his parking lot.
