By on 7/23/2014 09:45:00 AM

The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Los Angeles Angels for the second straight game with a 4-2 decision last night. The win improved the Orioles to 55-44, first in the American League East. Miguel Gonzalez allowed just two earned runs on three hits in 7 2/3 innings to pick up the win. Jonathan Schoop and J.J. Hardy each had two hits for the Orioles, who were without Manny Machado due to a back injury.

Eduardo A. Encina, who covers the Orioles for The Baltimore Sun, tweeted the following update on Machado.
Ryan Flaherty started at third base in place of Machado and went 0-for-4. Expect Flaherty to get the start tonight, should Machado be unable to play. Flaherty is batting .214 with four home runs and 15 RBI this season.

Machado, in his third Major League season, is batting .267 with 10 home runs and 23 RBI this season. In 156 games last season, Machado hit .283 with 14 home runs and 71 RBI. He is a career .276 hitter with 31 home runs and 120 RBI.
