Orioles Injury Update: Ubaldo Jimenez making slow progress

By on 7/21/2014 01:15:00 PM

The Baltimore Orioles got blown out by the Oakland A's on Sunday by the score of 10-2. Even with the loss, the Orioles are in first place in the American League East with a record of 53-44. The pitching staff has struggled somewhat to 19th in the league in ERA, at 3.91. Hoping to help boost the staff sometime soon in this second half is Ubaldo Jimenez, who is slowly making progress in recovery from an ankle injury.

Our own Pete Schwichtenberg reported on July 14 that Jimenez, who was recently placed on the disabled list with an ankle injury, would not be returning as soon as expected. He is eligible to come off the disabled list on July 23, but that is the day he may begin a rehab assignment.

Roch Kubatko, who covers the Orioles for MSNsports, tweeted the following update on Jimenez.
Jimenez, in his first season with the Orioles, is 3-8 with a 4.52 ERA. The nine-year Major League veteran had his best season in 2010 when he went 19-8 with a 2.88 ERA with the Rockies. Jimenez has pitched for the Rockies, Indians and Orioles and has a career record of 85-83 with a 3.97 ERA.
