By on 7/23/2014 07:00:00 AM

The San Diego Padres got shut out by the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday by the score of 6-0. The loss dropped the Padres to 43-56 on the season, third in the National League West. Although fourth in the Major Leagues in ERA, the Padres are a dismal 30th in runs scored. On the injury front, Everth Cabrera had a successful first rehab game on Tuesday.

I reported on July 20 that Cabrera, who has been out with a hamstring injury, was scheduled to run the bases and could begin a rehab assignment with El Paso on Monday.

An update on Cabrera, as reported by Igor Mello of, is that Cabrera started his rehab assignment with El Paso on Monday, playing four innings in the field and went 1-for-1 at the plate. It was Cabrera's first game action since his injury. There is no word of yet as to how many rehab games Cabrera will need.

Cabrera, in his sixth Major League season, is batting .218 with three home runs,16 RBI and 13 stolen bases this season. In 471 career games, all with the Padres, Cabrera has a batting average of  .246 with 12 home runs, 124 RBI and 131 stolen bases.
