Padres Injury Update: Carlos Quentin, Jedd Gyorko, Andrew Cashner

By on 7/28/2014 10:45:00 AM

The San Diego Padres have got second baseman Jedd Gyorko back, but another player has landed on the DL in his place: outfielder Carlos Quentin. MLB Roster Moves confirmed both's Corey Brock had reported that Gyorko would be activated Monday, with Quentin hitting the 15-day DL with left knee soreness, while Andrew Cashner is moving closer to a return after a successful bullpen session.

Quentin came out of Friday's game with the knee problem and did not start on Saturday, although he pinch-hit. He also missed more than a month at the start of the season with soreness in the same knee. Brock says that Gyorko is already in Atlanta ahead of his activation, where the Padres continue their series against the Braves at 12:10 ET on Monday. Gyorko has been out since the first week of June with plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

Brock also writes that Cashner, who has been sidelined with shoulder soreness, threw 31 pitches during a bullpen session at Turner Field, throwing both fastballs and changeups. The right-hander told Brock that he hoped to throw another session when the team returns to San Diego on Tuesday, then a rehab assignment could be possible. Based on that timetable, the 27-year-old could return around mid-August, depending on how many rehab starts the team wants him to make.
