Phillies Injury Update: Cliff Lee scheduled for July 21st start

By on 7/13/2014 02:30:00 PM

The Philadelphia Phillies have had improved pitching and more timely hitting of late, which has resulted in five wins in their last six games, heading into today's game. A key component to the pitching staff who has been out for nearly two months with a left elbow strain, is Cliff Lee. The Phillies will welcome Lee back following the All-Star break.

As reported by Marc Narducci of The Philadelphia Inquirer,  Lee is making his final rehab start on Monday in Clearwater. Barring any setbacks, Lee will start on July 21 against the San Francisco Giants, according to manager Ryne Sandberg.

With the Phillies likely listening to all trade offers, one must wonder how much longer Lee will be in a Phillies uniform. His starts on the 21st will help determine his health and trade value.

Lee, in his 13th Major League season, has played for the Indians, Mariners, Rangers and Phillies. In 10 starts this season, he is 4-4 with a 3.18 ERA. Lee's had three consecutive seasons with 200 or more strikeouts and has a career record of 143-90 with a 3.50 ERA.
