By on 7/22/2014 07:15:00 PM

The Philadelphia Phillies entered tonight's game against the San Francisco Giants entrenched in last place in the National League East with a record of 43-56. The Phillies, who are 26th in the Major Leagues in runs scored, banged out 14 hits, but left 11 men on base. One player which may provide a spark to the offense is power-hitting right hander Darin Ruf, who has been called up to replace the injured John Mayberry Jr, who has been placed on the disabled list.

As reported at, Mayberry was placed on the disabled list due to wrist inflammation. He started at first base against the Braves on Sunday and went 1-for-4 with a home run.

Ruf arrived in Philadelphia in time for tonight's game.  He's appeared on only seven games this season for the Phillies.  His only hit in ten at bats is a home run and stuggled a bit at Triple-A, hitting only one home run with a .265 batting average in 23 games.

Mayberry, in his sixth Major League season, is batting .213 with six home runs and 21 RBI this season. His best season was in 2011 when he hit .273 with 15 home runs and 49 RBI. Mayberry is a career .242 hitter with 52 home runs and 169 RBI.
