Pirates Injury Update: Pedro Alvarez still out with sore knee

By on 7/27/2014 12:00:00 PM

The Pittsburgh Pirates fell to 54-49 on the season following an 8-1 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Saturday. The Pirates managed just four hits and scored their only run on a pinch-hit home run by Ike Davis in the ninth inning. The Pirates were without a big bat in the middle of the order, as third baseman Pedro Alvarez sat again with a sore knee.

Our own Raymond Bureau reported on July 24 that Alvarez missed Wednesday's game due to discomfort in his left knee. He left Tuesday night's game in the fourth inning after aggravating his knee while running out a double. Alvarez was listed as day-to-day.

An update on Alvarez, as reported by Chris Towers of, is that he missed his second game in a row on Friday against the Rockies.  He continues to be day-to-day. Expect Brent Morel or Josh Harrison to continue to see time at third base until Alvarez returns.

Alvarez, in his fifth Major League season, is batting .236 with 15 home runs and  47 RBI this season.  Last season, he batted .233 with a career high 36 home runs and 100 RBI. Alvarez is a career .236 hitter with 101 home runs and 315 RBI.
