Pirates Injury Update: Starling Marte out of lineup Saturday

The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Colorado Rockies in 11 innings on Saturday by the score of 3-2. Jordy Mercer's RBI double won the game to improved the Pirates to 51-46, third in the National League Central. The Pirates were without left fielder Starling Marte after being hit in the head by a pitch on Friday. Josh Harrison started in place of Marte and went 0-for-4 with a run scored.

As reported by Stephen Pianovich of, Marte was hit in the head with a 93 mile per hour fastball thrown by Adam Ottavino on Friday.  Marte initially stayed in the game, but was removed two innings later.

Manager Clint Hurdle said that Marte could possibly be available off the bench on Saturday, but decided it was best to give Marte the game off. There is no word whether or not Marte will play today, as Marte will likely undergo tests to determine whether or not he has a concussion.

Marte, in his third Major League season, is batting .258 with five home runs and 34 RBI this season. Last year, he batted .280 with 12 home runs, 35 RBI and 41 stolen bases. Marte is a career .270 hitter with 22 home runs, 86 RBI and 74 stolen bases.
