By on 7/23/2014 06:00:00 AM

The Texas Rangers lost to the New York Yankees on Tuesday by the score of 2-1, in 14 innings. The loss dropped the Rangers to 40-60, last in the American League West. The Rangers, who are 29th in the league in ERA, allowed only two runs, but the offense left eight men on base. On the injury front, Alex Rios is expected to return Thursday from a right ankle injury he suffered on Saturday.

Our own Darius Austin reported on July 20 that Rios hurt his right ankle in the first inning of the previous night's game when his cleat got caught in the dirt in the batter's box and rolled it. X-rays were negative and he was considered day-to-day.

Jon Heyman, baseball writer for, tweeted the following update on Rios.
Rios, in his 11th Major League season, is batting .302 with four home runs and 42 RBI in 96 games this season. The veteran outfielder has played with the Blue Jays, White Sox and Rangers and has a career batting average of .280 with 165 home runs, 750 RBI and 243 stolen bases.
