Rangers Injury Update: Nick Tepesch to skip start

By on 7/30/2014 11:00:00 AM

Texas Rangers starter Nick Tepesch will miss his next turn in the rotation after leaving Saturday's start with knee soreness. Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that Jerome Williams is now slated to start Friday's series opener against the Cleveland Indians.

Grant spoke to manager Ron Washington, who said they expect Tepesch to be ready for his next turn:
“I’m not going to rush him back. It’s not going to hurt him to miss this turn. We will give Williams another shot and expect Tepesch back for his next start.”
If Tepesch looks like he won't be ready, the Rangers will surely send him to the DL, something they have already had to do with their players over 20 times this year. Tepesch told Grant that he was 'close' to being ready so hopefully this is one Rangers player who won't need a DL stint this time.

32-year-old Williams will make his second start for Texas after being released by the Astros earlier in July. Williams struggled to a 6.04 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in Houston but performed well in a spot start for Texas last week, going six innings with four strikeouts and giving up just one earned run.
