By on 7/27/2014 02:15:00 PM

In the seventh innning of Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Oakland Athletics, right hander Nick Tepesch was removed with left knee inflammation, according to Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News. Tepesch, who is 3-7 with a 4.84 ERA (ERA+ 85) will be evaluated Sunday. Anthony Andro of Fox Sports Southwest reports that LHP Derek Holland will make his 2014 debut Wednesday for Double-A Frisco to begin his rehab from microfracture surgery on his left knee. Holland is expected to return in late August or September.

Tepesch, 25, was drafted by the Rangers in 2010 (14th round) and made his debut April 9, 2013. In his rookie season the righty made 17 starts and two relief appearances, going 4-6 with a 4.84 ERA (ERA+ 86), striking out 76 and walking 27 in 93 innings. He was on the DL for two months (July and August) with right elbow inflammation, returning to pitch only 7.2 innings in September. Tepesch is pre-arb and under team control through 2018.

Holland, 27, injured his knee in an off-season accident playing with his dog, and underwent surgery on his knee January 10, 2014. He was drafted by the Rangers in 2006 (25th round), making his debut April 22, 2009. He has a career record of 49-38 with a 4.36 ERA in five seasons with the Rangers and is signed to a five-year $28.5 contract that takes him through 2016 (team options for 2017 and 2018).
