By on 7/28/2014 06:30:00 AM

The Tampa Bay Rays fell to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday by the score of 3-2. The loss dropped the Rays to 51-54 on the season, fourth in the American League East. The Rays scored both of their runs on a two-run double by Desmond Jennings. On the injury front, there is good news regarding Joel Peralta, who threw a bullpen session on Friday and began a rehab assignment on Saturday.

Our own Raymond Bureau reported on Saturday that Peralta  is getting over his illness and has begun getting back into shape. He could begin a Minor League rehab assignment over the weekend and return to the Rays as early as Monday.

As reported by R.J. White of, Peralta pitched an inning in his first appearance with high Class A Charlotte, allowing one hit, no runs and one strike out. Peralta was placed on the disabled list on Tuesday due to an illness, and although he is eligible to come off the disabled list on Monday, there is no word yet as to whether or not he'll be activated.

Peralta, in his 10th Major League season, is 2-3 with 13 holds and a 4.15 ERA in 43 games this season.  The veteran has pitched for the Angels, Royals, Nationals and Rays and has a career record of 15-32 with 150 holds and an ERA of 3.89.
