Rays Injury Update: Wil Myers transferred to 60-day DL

By on 7/18/2014 11:00:00 AM

The Tampa Bay Rays enter a weekend series against the Minnesota Twins to begin the second half of the season. At 44-53, the Rays are nine and a half games out in the American League East. The Rays have struggled at times offensively, ranked 19th in the Major Leagues in runs scored. One player that has struggled is second year outfielder Wil Myers, who has been out with a wrist injury.

I reported on July 11 that Myers, who has been out with a right wrist fracture since the beginning of June, would have his cast taken off.  He was set to begin three to four weeks of rehab, pending the results of X-rays.

As reported by Chris Cwik of, outfielder Wil Myers was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on Thursday. The move doesn't affect his timetable for his return. Myers has been dealing with a wrist injury and is eligible to be activated on July 30.

Myers, the American League Rookie of the Year last season,  batted .293 with 13 home runs and 53 RBI. This season, he's struggled at the plate, hitting just .227 with five home runs and 25 RBI in 52 games.
