Red Sox Injury Update: Will Middlebrooks, Shane Victorino

By on 7/14/2014 09:00:00 AM

There is good news and bad news coming out of Boston this week with two rehabs underway.  The bad news is that Will Middlebrookspainful season continued in Pawtucket.  Scott Lauber, of the Boston Herald, is reporting that Middlebrooks jammed his left wrist while sliding.

Middlebrooks has been on the disabled list since May 17th, and this latest injury just adds to his trying season.  Through his first 21 games with Boston, Middlebrooks is batting just .197 with two home runs.  Although he was once seen as the future at third, he will need to rediscover his swing when he is finally healthy enough to return.

The good news on the injury front is that it appears Shane Victorino is on the comeback trail.  Maureen Mullen is reporting that Victorino is expected to continue his rehab and rejoin the Red Sox on Friday.
Although his numbers have been down so far this season, (.242 batting average and just one home run)  his return would bring back another veteran presence to the lineup and a hitter who has proven to be able to get on base throughout his career.
