Reds Injury Update: Joey Votto likely headed to DL

By on 7/06/2014 08:30:00 PM

Cincinnati Reds All Star first baseman, Joey Votto, is probably headed back to the DL, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports:

Votto was on the DL from May 16 to June 10. Since his return, he has hit .250/.354/.345 with no homers, and the Reds have gone 14-9.

Joey Votto's list of honors is long, including four All-Star nominations (2010-13),  NL MVP (2010) and Gold Glove (2011). Famous for his study of the art of hitting, Votto led the NL in OPB (2010-13) and walks (2011-13).

Now in his age-30 season, Votto was drafted by the Reds in 2002 (2nd round), and made his debut September 4, 2007. In 2008 he was runner-up for Rookie of the Year, losing to Geovany Soto of the Chicago Cubs. At the start of the 2012 season, Votto signed a 10-year $225 milllion extension with the Reds that takes him though 2023 with a team option for 2024.
