Reds Injury Update: Skip Schumaker to concussion DL

By on 7/11/2014 07:30:00 PM

The injury bug has bitten the Cincinnati Reds yet again. This time, it is infielder/outfielder Skip Schumaker. The Reds' media relations department announced Friday afternoon that the Reds have placed Schumaker on the seven-day concussion list and called up utility man Donald Lutz to fill in the roster spot.

Schumaker is a valuable role player who can fill in all three outfield positions and handle second base as well. He can pinch hit or run or play as a defensive replacement. He is hitting .240 with 1 HR, 14 RBI, and 2 SB in 47 games this season.

Schumaker becomes the fifth Red to get hurt this week. Homer Bailey (knee) and Billy Hamilton (hamstring) are day-to-day and should both play again after the All-Star break. Brandon Phillips (thumb) and Joey Votto (quad) are both disabled until August.
