Our own Darius Austin reported on July 1 that Chacin was placed on the 15-day disabled list with what the team described as right shoulder inflammation. Chacin was not feeling good between starts and had altered his throwing program. He was sent back to Colorado for an MRI.
Thomas Harding, who covers the Rockies for MLB.com, tweeted the following update on Chacin.
#Rockies RHP Jhoulys Chacin has a rotator cuff strain as in Spring Training and "labral pathology," or fraying. He'll have 2nd opinion ...Chacin is 1-7 with a 5.40 ERA in 11 starts this season. Chacin was a 14-game winner last season with an ERA of 3.47. The six-year veteran from Venezuela has a career record of 38-48 with a 3.78 ERA.
