Rockies Injury Update: Jhoulys Chacin has strained rotator cuff

By on 7/03/2014 10:00:00 AM

The Colorado Rockies dropped to 36-49 on the season following a 4-3 loss to the Washington Nationals. The Rockies are 11 1/2 games out in the National League West despite being second in the Major Leagues in runs scored. A pitching staff that is 30th in the league in ERA received some bad news when an MRI on Jhoulys Chacin's shoulder revealed a strained rotator cuff.

Our own Darius Austin reported on July 1 that Chacin was placed on the 15-day disabled list with what the team described as right shoulder inflammation. Chacin was not feeling good between starts and had altered his throwing program. He was sent back to Colorado for an MRI.

Thomas Harding, who covers the Rockies for, tweeted the following update on Chacin.
Chacin is 1-7 with a 5.40 ERA in 11 starts this season. Chacin was a 14-game winner last season with an ERA of 3.47.  The six-year veteran from Venezuela has a career record of 38-48 with a 3.78 ERA.
