Rockies Injury Update: Jordan Lyles moved to 60 day DL

By on 7/14/2014 11:45:00 AM

Rockies right handed pitcher Jordan Lyles will be on the disabled list for a lot longer than expected.  Nick Groke of The Denver Post reported that Lyles has suffered a setback and been moved to the 60 day DL.

Rockies manager Walt Weiss stated that the broken bone in his glove hand that he hurt on June 4th is not fully healed.  After viewing X-Rays this Friday, Weiss stated that his hand "needed more time."

Originally the Post said Lyles was expected to begin his rehab on Friday, but now he will be out much longer.  Lyles was also involved in a minor car accident on after Friday night's game, but this had no effect on his current injury.

In losing Lyles for more time, the Rockies will continue to go with several unproven players in their rotation.  The 23-year-old Lyles, who was acquired for Dexter Fowler, was off to the best season of his career before the injury.  Even though he was pitching in hitter haven, Coors Field, Lyles had gone 5-1 with a 3.52 ERA.
