Rockies Injury Update: Jordan Lyles rehab result

By on 7/28/2014 06:00:00 AM

The Colorado Rockies entered Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a record of 43-60, last in the National League West, despite being third in the Major Leagues in runs scored. The problem with the Rockies has been a dreadful pitching staff that is 30th in ERA at 4.96. There could be some help on the way in the next couple of weeks, as Jordan Lyles made his first rehab start on Saturday.

Our own Pete Schwichtenberg reported on July 14 that the broken bone Lyles suffered on June 4 was not fully healed. As a result, he was placed on the 60-day disabled list.
An update on Lyles, as reported by R.J. White of, is that Lyles began a rehab assignment with Class A Modesto on Saturday. He went 3 2/3 innings, allowing three hits, two walks, no runs and struck out four.  Lyles is expected to return to the Rockies on August 5, barring no setbacks.

Lyles, in his fourth Major League season, is 5-1 with a 3.52 ERA, in 12 starts. He's allowed 64 hits and walked 24 in 69 innings, while striking out 49.  In 84 career games with the Astros and Rockies, Lyles is 19-30 with a 5.07 ERA.
