Rockies Injury Update: Justin Morneau scratched with neck stiffness

By on 7/18/2014 07:15:00 PM

The Colorado Rockies look to put a dismal 40-55 first half in their rear view mirror as they begin a three game series tonight against the Pittsburgh Pirates. An offense that is third in the league in runs scored has not been able to overcome a pitching staff with a woeful 5.07 ERA. The Rockies will be shorthanded tonight offensively, as first baseman Justin Morneau will miss the game due to a stiff neck.

Thomas Harding, who covers the Rockies for, tweeted the following, confirming Morneau's status.
Charlie Culberson, in his third Major League season, will start at first base tonight. Culberson is batting .190 with two home runs and 12 RBI in 116 at bats this season. He's a career .228 hitter with four home runs and 25 RBI.

Morneau, in his 12th Major League season, is batting .312 with 13 home runs and 60 RBI this season.  The four-time All-Star and American League MVP in 2006, participated in the home run hitting contest during All-Star festivities on Monday in Minnesota. Morneau is a career .280 hitter with 234 home runs and 923 RBI.
