Kansas City Royals pitcher Jason Vargas continues to make progress in his recovery from an appendectomy that landed the pitcher on the disabled list. Also, Eric Hosmer, who is dealing with a bruised hand, has been kept out of the Royals lineup.

Jason Vargas
Vargas continues to recover from the appendectomy. On Wednesday, he threw a side session and Ned Yost, Royals manager, said the next step for Vargas is not a rehab stint, but a simulated game on Saturday, as reported by Jackson Alexander from MLB.com. Vargas has put together a nice season going 8-4 with a 3.31 ERA in 19 games started.

Eric Hosmer
Hosmer, missed Thursday's series opener against the Cleveland Indians due to his injured right hand. Hosmer exited in the eighth inning when he aggravated his bruised right hand that forced him to miss the last two games, although he was used as a defensive replacement. The Royals are in third place and are looking to make a run in the American League Central. To do that, they are going to need Hosmer and all their players healthy and ready to go.
