Royals Injury Update: Nori Aoki activated

By on 7/12/2014 03:00:00 PM

After heading to the disabled list with a groin injury on June 21st, Nori Aoki is back with the Kansas City Royals.  Andy McCullough, of The Kansas City Star, reports that upon his activation prospect Christian Colon has also been optioned back to AAA Omaha.

Dick Kaegel of MLB.com reports that Aoki's activation is much earlier than the post all-star break return that was originally expected.  Aoki is returning after just three rehab games and eleven plate appearances in his AA rehab.  Kaelgel credits much of the return do to the "lack of outfield depth" with the loss of Alex Gordon to a wrist injury.

With Aoki's return to the leadoff spot, the Royals have a veteran presence who has been able to work counts throughout his whole career and find a way to get on base.  Through his first 69 games this season, Aoki is currently batting .266 with a .328 on base percentage.
