Saints Injury Update: Jairus Byrd is week-to-week

By on 7/26/2014 12:00:00 PM

The New Orleans Saints signed free agent safety Jairus Byrd to a 6 year deal this offseason. Byrd had to undergo surgery in May of this year to relieve a disc issue in his back. ESPN's Mike Triplett reported early this week that Byrd seems to be on schedule to return to the team shortly.

Byrd was hopeful to return to the Saints before the start of camp, however he was placed on the physically unable to perform list. Mike Triplett of ESPN's NFL Nation reported that Head Coach Sean Payton thought that Byrd's timetable is as expected and he hopes that he is back sooner rather than later.

The Saints added not only Byrd to their secondary this offseason, but also former Bronco, Champ Bailey. Clearly the team was focused on improving their secondary, and Byrd is a focal point in doing that. Byrd remains week-to-week, however the 2013 Pro Bowler should be ready week 1.
