Ryan Hood, of MLB.com, has reported that the San Francisco Giants infielder Ehire Adrianza has recovered from his hamstring injury and has been activated from the 15-day disabled list. Along with his activation they have also demoted outfielder Juan Perez to AAA Fresno.
As a career .249 minor league hitter, and someone who has batted just .224 to start the major league season, Adrianza return does not bring much offensively. However he has a solid glove and is a player that can play second base and provide some relief for the starting shortstop, Brandon Crawford.
During his rehab in Fresno, his bat caught fire as he batted .316 in six games, and even added his first home run of the season.
With the Giants entrenched in a divisional race in the powerful NL West, role players will be play a key part to how they finish. Little pieces can play a big part for clubs, and Adrianza's return should benefit the team going forward as they move towards October.
