Orioles Injury Update: Ubaldo Jimenez to begin rehab

By on 7/28/2014 06:41:00 PM

In the midst of a pennant race, the Baltimore Orioles received some positive news in regards to starter Ubaldo Jimenez who is set to make a rehab start for their Triple-A affiliate Tuesday, according to an article by Aaron Gleeman of .

The struggling Jimenez (3-8, 4.52 ERA) will throw around 65 pitches in his outing, so he will likely need a few starts before returning to the majors. His ankle injury occurred in a freak injury when he stepped in a hole in the Orioles' parking lot.

Despite missing significant time, Jimenez still leads the majors with 60 walks and has not been able to return to the dominant form he displayed while pitching for the Colorado Rockies. Still a dangerous pitcher, however, Jimenez can still reach the mid-90's with his fastball at times and can certainly be a factor in the Orioles' postseason run.

The AL East has been one of the tightest divisions in baseball all season long with all five teams still in the hunt. No team has been able to sustain a lead for long, and adding a former ace back to the rotation for Baltimore could give them the edge they need to make a serious push towards October.
