Yankees Injury Update: Carlos Beltran placed on concussion DL

The New York Yankees blew a 3-0, seventh-inning lead against the Cleveland Indians by giving up nine runs in the last two innings. They fell to the Indians by the score of 9-3 and dropped to 45-44 on the season. Zelous Wheeler when 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Yankees in the losing effort. Matt Thornton and Jim Miller got hammered in relief, with Thornton taking the loss. The bad news for the Yankees began hours before the game, as Carlos Beltran was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list.

I reported yesterday that Beltran missed Wednesday night's game due to a facial contusion he suffered when he fouled a ball off his face in the batting cage. Beltran was later diagnosed with two small facial fractures and possibly a concussion.

George A. King III, who covers the Yankees for the New York Post, confirmed Beltran's status.
Beltran is batting .216 with nine home runs and 28 RBI in his first season with the Yankees. The 17-year veteran has played for the Royals, Astros, Mets, Giants, Cardinals and Yankees and has a career batting average of .281 with 367 home runs and 1,355 RBI.
