Yankees Injury Update: Masahiro Tanaka has MRI on right arm, placed on DL

UPDATE 17:10 ET: Tanaka has been placed on the 15-day DL with right elbow inflammation, according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News. MLB.com's Bryan Hoch says that Tanaka complained of soreness after Tuesday's start and will now be evaluated by the team doctor, having had his MRI.

Original article:
The day after getting roughed up by the Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka is going for an MRI scan on his right arm. George A. King of the New York Post reports that Tanaka has flown back to New York for the scan.

Bryan Hoch of MLB.com added that Tanaka made postgame comments yesterday to the effect that he understood why he had a bad start but he wasn't able to explain it. There is no further information at present as to the nature or severity of the problem.

Tanaka has started to struggle of late after a stellar beginning to his MLB career. The Japanese right-hander has been knocked around for 19 hits and nine earned runs over his last two starts, after having not given up more than three earned runs in any of his first sixteen starts. He still has an excellent 2.51 ERA and 1.005 WHIP but this news combined with his dip in performance are troubling signs for the Yankees as they try to catch the Orioles in the AL East.
