Yankees Injury Update: Mark Teixeira out with strained lat

By on 7/21/2014 05:15:00 PM

New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is having more injury problems, reports ESPN New York's Wallace Matthews. Teixeira has a lower lat strain and could miss the entire four-game series against the Texas Rangers, which begins Monday night.

In addition, The Infirmary Report says that Teixeira has had the strain for some time.
Teixeira has had his share of injuries this season, including a strained hamstring, which put him on the disabled list in April, and some minor wrist inflammation. He is one of the few consistent sources of run production that the Yankees have had this season as he has hit 17 home runs, driven in 48 runs, and scored 39 times, giving him a run production score of 70 (R+ RBI - HR) in 76 games. That is respectable considering his .231 batting average.

Normally, when Teixeira sits, Kelly Johnson plays first base, leaving third base open for Yangervis Solarte or Zelous Wheeler. The Yankees have announced that Wheeler will start at third Monday night.
