76ers Injury Update: Sixers sign Joel Embiid

By on 8/27/2014 11:30:00 AM

The Philadelphia 76ers went into the off season with more questions than answers following a dismal 19-win season, which included a 26-game losing streak. Obviously in the midst of a major rebuilding project, the Sixers have had solid play in the summer league from Nerlens Noel. The hope is that Noel, along with Michael Carter-Williams and this year's first round draft pick Joel Embiid, will give the 76ers something to build upon. Yesterday, the Sixers made a significant step with the signing of Embiid.

Embiid posted on his Twitter account about his signing with the 76ers.
It's uncertain whether or not Embiid will play during the 2014-2015 season, but Richard Ferkel, who performed the surgery, made is clear that Embiid should be ready to return by late February at the latest, assuming that there are no setbacks in Embiid's recovery.

Embiid sat out the last six games of Kansas' season due to a stress fracture in his back, missing the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments. In 28 games last season, Embiid averaged 11.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocked shots per game.
