Angels Injury Update: Garrett RIchards carted off with apparent knee injury

By on 8/20/2014 08:37:00 PM

In the bottom of the second inning, with runners on first and second, Brock Holt hit a ground ball to the first baseman Albert Pujols . Pujols threw to second, and Angels pitcher Garrett Richards ran over to cover first base. As he ran to cover first, his knee buckled and he fell to the ground.
Players and coaches ran over to check on Richards, who was lying on the ground, screaming in pain. Play was halted for more than ten minutes as Richards was attended to, and eventually carted off the field.

Richards, 26, was in the middle of a fantastic season, emerging as the ace of the first place Angels. Pitching to a 13-4 record with a 2.53 ERA and 1.01, all career bests.

The Angels have a 1 game lead over the A's, who lost today against the Mets. The Angels were counting on Richards to lead them into October baseball.

We will keep you updated as more info comes in.

UPDATE: It's a left patellar injury for Richards.
